Date
July 2023
Location
Chapman Foundation - Fountain Inn, SC, USA
Role

We had the opportunity to give two lessons to the young growers of the Chapman Foundation during their 2-week summer camp. On day one (pictured here) we talked about soils and their fundamental constituents; silt, clay, sand, and loam. In addition to, germination soil mix, and preparing soil mixes, with Pea planting activity at the end.
After explaining and demonstrating each, students also had the chance to feel, smell, and compare; silt, sand, clay, and loam. Thus, making the lesson a hands-on and experiential learning experience.
In groups students got to:
1.) Wet their own soil
2.) Fill their own pots with soil
3.) Plant their own Pea seed
4.) Label + name their newly planted Pea
